About Me & Case Studies

My professional writing experience has touched upon words for everything you can imagine – from newspaper articles and white papers, user instructions, multi-million-dollar tech RFPs, web site content, to instructions on electronic monitoring of sewage grinder pumps. Words matter, and when put together properly, can make a big difference in the overall mission of an organization on down to making a person’s job easier every day. Contact me about your project(s) and potential solutions.

Case Studies

The following project summaries are just a quick example of different types of projects that I have been involved with. Big or small – feel free to contact me to discuss your project(s) and potential solutions. Appropriate references and specific samples can be supplied after our initial conversation.

Global User Instructions

CooperVision, a global Vision products company, is launching an Oracle ERP system to manage inventory, financials, vendors, and suppliers. Work instructions were needed for user acceptance testing and implementation of real time financial processes. The first roll out was in Hungary, but the instructions were in Hungarian. Written by SMEs, the Work Instructions needed to be tested, edited, and structured properly to be localized in other regions of the world as acceptance testing and implementation continues. Following “Blueprint” documents, new Work Instructions specific to the Malaysian roll-out were also written from scratch.

MMIS Technical Writing Team Work

The New York State Department of Health and Xerox Healthcare (Conduent) partnered to develop a Medicaid Management Information System. The project needed a team of technical writers to edit and write documents for the Systems Development Life Cycle, including security documents. As part of the team, I work remotely with writers, developers, business analysts and quality assurance personnel to prepare documents for client review and acceptance. I also created training for fellow writers about using Restricted Templates and created an Email Newsletter to help market the technical writing staff to other teams on the project.t

Worker’s Compensation Finance Department As Is Study

The New York State Workers’ Compensation Board needed to modernize its accounting and transaction processes. In order to do this, the current state of the Finance Department had to be documented down to every individual’s daily job. I scoped and co-managed a year long process that had approximately 50 people working in small team sprints to document duties and create process maps for billions of dollars of annual transactions. This As Is Study gave the Board the ground work to begin to improve and automate their mission.

Documentation GAP Analysis

MVP Healthcare was growing and need to better manage it systems and security documents, now and in the future. I developed a GAP Analysis and clean-up process of current system and securities documents and wrote the requirements for a proposed Document Repository.

ADA Compliant Web Sites

The Internet has dramatically changed the way state and local governments do business. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) generally requires that state and local governments provide qualified individuals with disabilities equal access to their programs, services, or activities – include Web access. As guidelines for Section 508 became available, I worked with Documentation Strategies, a firm specializing in technical communications, to Develop and ADA Approach and White Paper for working with clients on compliant Web design and information access. I also was the ghost writer of an article on the topic published in the Albany Business Review.
